Intuition Spotlights: Hive Mind

Meet Kylan Hurt, founder of Hive Mind, bringing reputation and context directly into the browser.

The Intuition Grants Program supports builders creating applications and infrastructure powered by the Intuition Knowledge Graph.

Meet Kylan Hurt

Kylan Hurt has been building in the blockchain industry for more than a decade.

He received his first Bitcoin in 2012 from Roger Ver and began working full-time in the space in 2017. Since then, he has contributed to multiple wallets and applications, including Edge, MetaMask, blockchain voting systems, validator infrastructure, and other Web3 products.

In 2024, Kylan turned his attention toward Intuition after seeing an opportunity to solve a problem he had been thinking about for years: reputation on the open web.

Reputation depends on one's viewpoint.

Hive Mind

Hive Mind is a browser extension that surfaces context and reputation signals from the Intuition network as users browse the web.

Instead of forcing people to leave the websites they visit, Hive Mind brings relevant knowledge directly into the browsing experience.

The project also includes a MetaMask Snap and an Intuition claim explorer designed to make reputation data more accessible to everyday users.

The Problem

The internet has never been more connected.

It has also never been easier to deceive people.

Users regularly encounter:

  • Phishing attempts
  • Scam websites
  • Fake social profiles
  • Fraudulent job offers
  • Misinformation campaigns

Most people make trust decisions with incomplete information.

The Solution

Hive Mind adds an intelligence layer to the browser.

By leveraging data from Intuition, it provides users with additional context about the entities they encounter online.

Rather than asking users to manually research every wallet, website, or account, Hive Mind aims to surface relevant trust signals directly within existing workflows.

The vision is simple:

Make trust visible where decisions are made.

Building with Intuition

Kylan first encountered Intuition while working at MetaMask.

After seeing Billy Rennekamp present the protocol, he immediately recognized its potential as the missing reputation layer for projects he was already building.

What began as an enhancement to an existing browser extension evolved into a much larger vision powered by the Intuition Knowledge Graph.

Lessons Learned

One of the most interesting discoveries has been how difficult universal reputation actually is.

The moment a reputation system becomes useful, it becomes valuable.

And the moment it becomes valuable, people begin attempting to game it.

The challenge is not merely creating scores.

The challenge is creating systems that preserve nuance and context.

What's Next?

Hive Mind continues to expand its browser tooling, MetaMask integrations, and reputation experiences.

The long-term vision is a safer internet where users can make more informed trust decisions without sacrificing openness and decentralization.
